A Healthy Holiday Body

-Focus on health not on weight-

A starting point

"Improving your fitness can improve your experiences"

If you have an end goal to be healthy and happy for your next trip, don't just think about it- get started! If you find yourself becoming very lazy and lethargic as I did, it is most likely because you are not keeping fit. Exercise is the perfect way to build energy and I intend on helping you discover the best ways to do this without stressing to much. For me dieting never really works as I am a chocoholic and carbs are my first love so instead I am suggesting subtle but effective changes to a normal diet to make it healthier which should give results from the beginning. It is good to focus on toning and building stamina as these will help to improve your experiences not only while travelling but in everyday life. I am not fitness or health expert but hopefully these few suggestions can help you to get started.

A healthy balance

"the greatest wealth is health"

Water is your best friend

Whenever possible to substitute a glass of water for your usual sugar filled drinks. Cut out fizzy drinks and only have a glass occasionally when out for a meal; You will find water becomes your preferred drink (with the exception of a glass of Prosecco every now and again). It will boost your energy and improve productivity. Water can also help to rid the body of toxins plus improve the health of your heart and skin. Water is the worlds first and foremost medicine, don't take it for granted!

Changing portion sizes

in most cases eyes are always to big for the belly. When you give yourself big portions that are never actually needed it is easy not to stop eating when you are full as you may not realise it and also who doesn't hate wasting food? Eating more than you need can easily happen so try using smaller plates. This is a good physiological trick as you can fill your plate so it doesn't look empty but the portion is still smaller. Eating in moderation is the key. If, after 10 minutes after eating you are still hungry from not eating enough get a healthy snack. Easy enough right!

Macros

fitting my nutrients to macros can make sure you are getting the right amount of fat carbs and protein. Although it can be confusing to figure out, it becomes easier to track and is a good way to get a balanced diet. What's good is that you can still eat what you want as long as it fits the macros so you don't feel like you are on a restricted diet. To help me keep track of this try using the free Lose it! and Macros apps.

Workout Wonders

"be stronger than your excuses"

Have fun to keep fit

Choose a game/sport that has a fun factor and I guarantee you will stick by it (I have just started playing SQUASH and it is so much fun). If you don't always like the pressure of working out to purely to keep fit this is a great way to socialise with friends whilst also working up a sweat and not feeling like its a chore. Don't take it seriously and break some of the rules. You will find that whatever you do - as long as its something- it will still proved to be a great workout. The time flies by and the laughter doesn't stop!

*WARNING: exercise has been known to cause health and happiness*

Group Gains

Individual commitment to a group effort, that is what makes a team work. Try to find a hobby where you can be part of a team, I'm sure it will be one of the greatest decisions you will make. You will discover it to be a place filled with motivation, inspiration, love, knowledge and all the support needed to reach goals you only dreamed of.

During my studies I took up cheerleading and fell in love with the sport and my cheer family.

Boot camp

There are multiple classes of this nature held everywhere such as cave/ guerrilla/ warrior.
They typically involve high intensity circuit style workouts, using a variety of equipment such as Tyres, Prowlers, Battle Ropes, Chains, Dumbbell's, Bars etc. The hard work pays off, these great drilling session build strength and improve stamina. From the very first session your fitness levels will increase and stamina will improve with each class. Building Strength and endurance will improve experience when travelling. The work out stations can be adjusted to suit individuals of any age or level of health. 30 sets of short 1 minute stations include simple exercises which give a sense of achievement once completed. I find the instructors are very motivational and helpful - it's good to have your hard efforts acknowledged.

Quick home workouts

These workouts are great when you just want to do some quick exercise without going to the gym or a class. My favourite YouTube workouts are with Vicky Justiz, she does short effective workouts to follow which target certain areas of the body. I am currently doing her 30 day bikini body challenge and really enjoying it. No more excuses for not being able to make time for a work out!
*Tip* do a quick warm up video before hand
