Once we arrived at the hostel we checked in and headed to our private room (Luke struggles to sleep with me breathing next to him never mind any other people in the room so we opted to pay a little more for a better sleep). Unfortunately once we got to the room and opened the door we saw that the room was -excuse my language- a sh*t tip the bed sheets and pillows were filthy and sprawled over the room and there was trash and food across the floor. At first I panicked and thought "is this hostel life, are we supposed to clean up the previous persons mess?" Surely not... so we went back to check in (and I can tell you after travelling for so long it is not fun hauling heavy backpacks up and down) we let the staff know what had happened and they assured us that this was a mistake the room should be clean so asked if we could wait whilst they sent a cleaner in. OK, so at least we don't have to clean it ourselves!
So we waited and after 20 minutes we were getting a bit aggravated as we just wanted to put our stuff down and relax. We went back to check in and it turns out they didn't even have a cleaner in! Eventually they sorted the problem by getting another room for us (not sure why this wasn't done right away) and they offered us 2 drinks vouchers each to be used in the hostel bar. By this time we were just relieved we could go to our room and settle in for the next 5 nights. Luckily the room was tidy and clean when we went in no more dramas!
We went out for a walk to stretch our legs along the streets of St Kilda. By now it was dark and not much was going on but it looked very nice from what we could tell. We grabbed some snacks and drinks and went back to our room where we slept like babies until late the next day.
