Applying for a working holiday visa



If you are 18 to 30 years of age and want to holiday and work in Australia for up to a year, you will need to apply for the temporary Working Holiday visa (subclass 417). Oz offer this visa to encourage cultural exchange and closer ties with eligible countries.

Don't bother wasting your time and money on a visa representative. You do not need the help of a travel expert to apply for your visa as it is so quick and simple to do yourself. A travel firm can charge up to an extra £100 for what would only take you a short amount of time! Here's what you need to know about applying for the Working holiday Visa (subclass 417)...

  • Head to get your visa directly from the Australian Government's website here.
  • The easy online application process takes approximately 15-30 minutes to fill in the form (not stressful at all!).
  • The form asks basic questions about yourself, previous living and employment history and briefly touches on your intentions for working in Aus.
  • Have your passport handy and triple check that you enter the details correctly.
  • After applying for the visa you should hear back within 10 days however most are granted as soon as they confirm your passport and personal details within 48 hours.
  • Your visa grant notice will be emailed to you in an attachment*
  • Once the visa is issued you have 12 months to enter Australia and it will start only on the date you arrive in the country and will be valid for 1 year from then on.
  • Online application costs approx. £250 plus card fees (prices vary with exchange rates).
*Travel Tip: create a folder in your emails dedicated to travel documents and save everything related to your trip in there so you can easily access everything.

If you complete  and prove that you have carried out 3 months of regional work, you will be eligible to apply for a 1-year extension.
